For this reason, the Thames Valley is considered to be the UK’s true ‘turbo-economy’ and the place to be.

The region is continually placed at the very top of many established, independent, locational and business rankings.  This includes PwC’s Good Growth for Cities report, the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, EY’s Regional Economic Forecast and the fDi European Cities and Regions of the Future Report.

The Thames Valley is home to countless corporate headquarters and many international brands.

In addition, over the past 10 years, TVCC have helped secure over 1,000 FDIs, supporting those foreign owned companies who have chosen to locate to the region.

Business Growth

The Thames Valley is forecast to be the highest-growing region in the UK, with a Gross Value Added (GVA) growth of 2.4% predicted for 2024-26.  Reading tops the overall UK growth chart at 2.7%.

Reading’s growth across Information Technology and Communications (ITEC) and Professional Services, Science and Technology sectors, is driving this high growth, with these sectors forecast to grow by 4.3% and 3.1% per annum respectively.

Connectivity

The Thames Valley is one of Europe’s best connected regions.

London Heathrow is the UK’s only hub airport and largest port by volume and value. Passengers can fly to 214 destinations.​

Reading and Oxford in Top 10 of Small European Cities of the Future 2024 report with Slough taking top spot for connectivity. 

Fast and frequent direct rail access to London and Heathrow Airport, with the Elizabeth Line providing direct connectivity.

Four strategic routes in the region (the M4, M40, M3 and M25) connect the Thames Valley to the rest of England and Wales.

The region has direct road links to the UK’s main seaports at Southampton, Dover and Felixstowe.
