Wallis Shipping director joins national industry board

Chamber member Jenna Morgan, commercial director of Wallis Shipping in Slough has joined the Board of Directors of the British International Freight Association (BIFA).

BIFA’s board oversees the strategic direction of the trade association, that represents UK-registered companies engaged in the international movement of freight by all modes of transport, as well as ancillary services such as customs brokerage.

BIFA operates with a full-time secretariat that administers and manages the association’s affairs and is a not-for-profit company with corporate members involved in logistics, freight forwarding and international supply chains.

Jenna said: “It is a big honour to be selected for the BIFA board. To represent our company in our industry body is a career-high for me. With so much change currently happening in logistics, what with Brexit and higher shipping and fuel costs, driver shortages, strikes, and environmental challenges, it is great to have an input into policy making that can positively affect and help all our members in the industry.”

“Wallis has had a top year, from launching our environmental manifesto, celebrating 35 years in business and receiving our 25th ISO accreditation for quality – the board position is the icing on the cake.”

The appointment follows a victory for Jenna in the 2020 BIFA Freight Service awards when she was named Young Freight Forwarder of the Year, which required her to present to a panel of judges, including those from the sponsor, Virgin Atlantic Cargo.

Commenting on Jenna’s award, the judges said it was a “well-deserved win. One thing we were impressed with was that you were combining your interview with us with fitting in traveling to see clients – we all thought that was a testament to you juggling time and work.”

Robert Keen, BIFA’s director general added: “I welcome Jenna to our 12-strong Board of Directors. I believe that her excellent record of achievement since she joined the industry and wide-ranging experience in helping to run a successful freight forwarding company will ensure that BIFA and its members will benefit this appointment.”

Established in 1987, global freight management company, Wallis Shipping, has managed over 250,000 shipments across the world.

Over the last 35 years, Wallis Shipping has created its own cargo tracking and freight management software, pushed through Brexit and the Covid-19 epidemic, has grown to work across four locations, and is now aiming to become net zero by 2050.

Wallis Shipping looks after exports, imports, and cross trades all around the world across sea, air, and road and offers specialisms in global events and exhibitions. It works with industries including food and drink, humanitarian aid, energy and renewables, machinery, construction and specialist vehicles.
