This spring has marked an exciting milestone for Prospect Hospice, as it proudly hosted its first Men’s Walk to Support on Saturday 18 April. The event brought together an inspiring group of participants from across the region, united by a shared commitment to men’s mental health, community and charitable support.
The Men’s Walk was about creating space for conversation, connection and support. From early morning, walkers gathered with a strong sense of camaraderie, setting off together to enjoy the 8-mile route and the simple power of walking side by side. What stood out most was not just the number of steps taken, but the openness, encouragement and shared purpose felt throughout the day.
For many participants, the walk created space to reflect, talk and support one another in a way that can be difficult to find in everyday life. The success of the event highlighted the importance of creating opportunities that promote both physical and mental wellbeing, while also raising awareness and funds for Prospect Hospice, which continues to make a meaningful difference across our local community.
Building on this momentum, the local charity is now inviting businesses, families and individuals to take part in its next flagship event: the Starlight Walk on Saturday 27 June. This much‑loved evening walk promises a truly memorable experience, as participants come together after dusk to walk under the stars in solidarity and remembrance.
The Starlight Walk is designed to be accessible and welcoming, offering different route lengths so that everyone can take part, whether as a team-building activity with colleagues, a fundraiser with friends, or a personal challenge. Participants are encouraged to light up the night with glow sticks and light-up accessories, creating a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere that reflects the spirit of togetherness at the heart of the event.
Ben Lee, Head of Relationship Fundraising at Prospect Hospice said: “Following the success of our first Men’s Walk to Support, we are excited to continue developing our walking events programme and deepening community involvement. Every step taken helps ensure that the hospice can continue to provide essential support to those who need it most.”
“We look forward to seeing the local community come together once again on Saturday 27 June, walking, fundraising and shining brightly for a cause that matters.”
For businesses across the Thames Valley, the Starlight Walk offers a meaningful opportunity to demonstrate social responsibility, support a local cause, and engage staff in an activity that promotes wellbeing and connections beyond the workplace. Many organisations choose to walk as teams, fundraise collectively, or sponsor participants, strengthening internal bonds while making a tangible impact.
