A homeless charity based in Swindon is encouraging people to give up the comfort of their own bed for one night and sleep out in their garden, shed, garage, office, patio, kitchen, lounge or trampoline – in fact anywhere apart from their own bed.
Due to the restrictions imposed by the current COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Threshold BIG Sleep Out cannot taken place in it’s usual format, so it’s moving online and supporters are being asked to host an event within their own support bubbles.
Christine Oxford, Special Projects Co-ordinator says “Now, more than ever before, the public solidarity with our mission and with their financial fundraising support is critical to help us continue to deliver care, over and above what could normally be expected in any given year.
It won’t be anything like the reality of being homeless of course, but it will give a glimpse into the discomfort, cold, lack of sleep which is a nightly reality for too many people”
For over 48 years, Threshold have been making a meaningful difference to the lives of so many and at present during this most unprecedented dangerous and challenging times their unrelenting frontline support is critical to those experiencing homelessness.
She continues “We would hope that people would participate with family and friends, keeping in mind the Governments current guidelines of course and get sponsored.
Our fundraising target is £50,000. This is no small amount and double what we would normally raise in our annual Sleep Out. This year has seen Threshold experience unprecedented demand on our services that we provide to the homeless with no ability to fundraise.”
