Thousands take part in East West Rail’s latest consultation

More than 3,100 people attended events and over 5,000 feedback forms have been received during the final route-wide consultation. 

The consultation, which ran between 14 April and 9 June 2026, gave people the opportunity to learn more about updated proposals for the railway connecting Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge, and provide feedback on the latest designs. 

Across 16 in-person and online events, people were able to talk to members of the team, view updated designs and route section animations, and ask questions about the latest proposals for the project. 

The consultation attracted strong engagement: 

  • More than 3,100 people attended consultation events 
  • More than 5,000 feedbackformshave beenreceived 
  • More than 47,000 website consultation page viewshave been made 
  • Over 6,300 interactive map views have been registered 
  • More than 1,200 visits have been made to thevirtual consultation room
  • More than 9 million views have been made to EWR Co’s Facebook page
  • EWR Co’s Instagram page generated over 3 million views
  • EWR Co’s YouTube channel received more than 3 million views

Key updates shared during consultation included proposals to accelerate construction to bring benefits to communities sooner and plans to operate up to five trains an hour using five-car trains to meet expected future demand.

Feedback will now be reviewed and used to help finalise designs before we submit a Development Consent Order application in 2027.  A consultation summary report will be published in the Autumn.
