Thames Hospice marks five years at Bray Lake with compassionate care at the heart

Thames Hospice is celebrating a very special milestone this month: five years since opening its purpose-built facility in the heart of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, surrounded by nature on the banks of Bray Lake.

Since welcoming patients and families into the new building on 12 October 2020 – right in the middle of the pandemic – Thames Hospice has become a thriving hub of care, compassion and community support. But while the building offers a tranquil haven for patients, families, staff and volunteers, the charity is also keen to emphasise that its work extends far beyond bricks and mortar.

Dr Rachael de Caux, Chief Executive, Thames Hospice, said: “Our Hospice building is a vital hub and has given us incredible space to care, but it’s also important to remember that around 80% of our care is delivered out in the community, in people’s homes; exactly where they most want to be. For 38 years, we have been dedicated to providing outstanding, compassionate care for local people and their families. That remains at the heart of everything we do.

“We simply couldn’t do this without the support of our community – whether that’s donating, fundraising, shopping or giving items to our stores, volunteering, or simply spreading the word about our work. Every single act of support helps ensure we can be here for everyone who needs us, today and in the future.”

Thanks to the generosity of the local community, since moving to Bray Lake the Hospice has raised more than £50 million through donations, fundraising, its café and retail stores – vital funds that ensure thousands of patients & families continue to receive outstanding care.

From 2020 to 2025, Thames Hospice has delivered care and support to thousands of local people.

To mark this special five-year milestone, the Hospice is also delighted to have received a generous donation of brownies from Maidenhead-based Epic Brownies (www.eatepicbrownies.com), which patients and Hospice colleagues will enjoy together as part of the celebrations.

Thames Hospice is a vibrant part of our community, offering comfort and connection in unexpected ways. Rachael invites everyone to discover this for themselves: “I encourage everyone to pop in and visit us to discover our beautiful lakeside setting. It’s a tranquil haven where you can take in the peaceful atmosphere, observe local wildlife, and enjoy the stunning views across Bray Lake – a perfect spot for quiet reflection.

“Our Café by the Lake, serves a delicious selection of food and drinks for everyone Monday to Sunday – bring your friends and family!”
