Thames Hospice Launches Urgent £40,000 Campaign to Keep Nurses on the Road This Christmas

Thames Hospice has launched its first-ever participation in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, aiming to raise £40,000 in just seven days to secure the future of its vital Hospice at Home service this winter.

The charity is asking the local community to help fund the vehicles, essential maintenance, and fuel that keep its specialist nurses travelling across the community to deliver care to patients in their own homes.

During the seven-day campaign, every single pound donated to the Hospice will be instantly DOUBLED by generous match funders, meaning a £20 donation will be worth £40 and is enough to fuel eight urgent home visits.

“For our Hospice at Home team, the car isn’t just a vehicle – it’s the only way we can deliver comfort and medical support directly to a family’s doorstep,” explains Sara Reid, Clinical Team Leader at Thames Hospice. “We do absolutely everything we can to keep someone at home for Christmas, knowing these moments are vulnerable and precious. Our cars are always on the go, and we rely on the community’s support to ensure the tank is never empty.”

The full £40,000 target will ensure the Hospice at Home team can maintain their fleet of vehicles, guaranteeing nurses can reach patients 24-hours a day, regardless of weather conditions, to manage pain and provide emotional support to patients and their families.

The Big Give campaign is running now until 12pm on 9th December 2026. Those wishing to double their donation and help keep the nurses on the road can donate directly here: https://donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05WS000005BKIHYA4 or visit www.thameshospice.org.uk/biggive
