Select Car Leasing completes first ‘self-service’ customer journey

Reading-based Select Car Leasing is celebrating its first fully ‘self-service’ customer journey – with the order completed entirely online.

In a landmark moment for the UK’s largest and most trusted vehicle leasing broker, customers can now select their preferred colour and trim, verify their identity, get a quote, complete credit checks, make a payment, and receive confirmation – all without speaking to a consultant.

The scheme is being trialled on in-stock personal contract hire (PCH) deals for the electric Polestar 2 before being rolled out more broadly.

Geoff Cockerill, Director of Operations at Select Car Leasing, says the new streamlined process reduces the need for manual interventions – while freeing up the sales and operations teams to focus on higher-value tasks.

He adds: “This is a significant moment for Select Car Leasing and one that reduces the time it takes a customer to complete a deal compared to the traditional assisted route, enhancing convenience without diminishing the overall customer experience.

“A fully digital, self-service system means customers can order a vehicle at their own convenience, any time of day or night, without waiting for a callback or email.

“Our leasing consultants will continue to play an enormous role in Select’s future and self-serve processes won’t diminish the responsibilities of staff. We also know that many customers still place great value in being able to talk to a specialist directly.

“Instead, allowing customers to complete the entire journey online in one sitting, from quote to payment in a matter of minutes, lets our sales and operations teams focus on other important tasks.

“And while self-serve is currently offered on a small number of deals, it’s scalable. Once fully rolled out, self-service can handle a higher volume of deals in a consistent and compliant manner, without proportionally increasing headcount or operational overheads.”

Select’s self-service system utilises Yoti verification tech, where customers can confirm their identity by uploading their driving licence and a ‘selfie’ photo.

Using the API services, real-time quotes are generated directly from the funder – in this case, Lex and Alphabet – while credit proposal submissions and decisioning is automated.

Secure online Digital Order forms and Worldpay payment solutions are integrated into the MySelect platform.

Meanwhile, full integration of Select’s internal platforms allows for vehicle availability checks, reservation management, order updates, drop-off tracking, and sales follow-up where needed.

Select’s milestone self-service deal was funded by Alphabet.

Richard Chadwick, Head of Indirect Sales at Alphabet, commented: “While this isn’t the first self-service deal Alphabet has funded, Select Car Leasing is among a unique group of businesses leading the way in this area.

“We’re excited to support the continued roll-out of Select’s self-service system, which we believe represents the future of the customer journey.

“Select is at the forefront of this shift, and we’re pleased to play a part in supporting its innovation and ambition.”
