Resource Productions, founded in 1999, began with a small community project, “Active Archive,” bringing together young filmmakers and museum volunteers in Slough to learn digital skills and share their stories of Slough, the most diverse borough in the UK.
Now a 2024 Arts Council England (ACE) National Portfolio Organisation, Resource has produced a diverse array of projects, including commissions for BBC and Channel 4 and this work builds on their continued youth and community engagement through YES: Youth Engagement Slough, supported by SEGRO and the work of ‘Creative Collective’ and Slough Arts Forum, established over a decade ago.
In addition, Resource has been appointed as one of only seven British Film Institute (BFI) Skills Clusters for the UK. This involved establishing ‘Screen Berkshire’ – a partnership with AMAZON MGM Studios, as well as Shinfield Studios, Bedlam Productions, University of Reading and all six Berkshire councils, through ‘Berkshire Film Office’. Their debut feature film ‘Little English’ also began streaming free on ITVX this year.
Whilst impressive, the not-for-profit’s outstanding reputation within Arts and Film is not their main achievement. Over the last 25 years this tiny community-based powerhouse has engaged with, trained and supported, produced for and showcased work by more than 67,500 individual artists and filmmakers from under-represented backgrounds.
On Tuesday 10th September they held their first 25th Anniversary event at Windsor Castle with the Lord Lieutenant Andrew Try and High Sheriff Alexander Barfield, but there is much more to come with a special ‘Moving Image Mela’ planned on Saturday 7th December.
