Pfizer, which has a rich heritage of working in the UK since its first facility opened back in 1952, has joined the Chamber’s most senior tier of membership.
Its Business Alliance tier, which was established fifteen years ago, brings together influential business leaders from strategically significant employers in the Thames Valley to drive real change for the region. In recent years, local activity has led to companies contributing and shaping not only its “Business Manifesto” (a regional work programme and agenda), but also the British Chambers of Commerce national policy priorities.
Through its advisory and working groups, Business Alliance activity includes making representations to Government, creating cross-sectoral partnerships to identify and promote business objectives, gaining regional and national insights into business priorities. Additionally, it is helping future proof the Thames Valley region, attracting investment, and making the Thames Valley a great place to live and work.
The UK is an important location for Pfizer globally, with approximately 2,500 colleagues in five locations working across its commercial business, R&D, manufacturing, packaging, and distribution. Having invested heavily in the UK market, the company is committed to working closely with the NHS and other healthcare organisations to improve the delivery of care and patient outcomes.
Ben Osborn, Managing Director of Pfizer UK commented:
“We are absolutely delighted to be joining the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Alliance at this critical time for the UK.
“Whilst our primary focus is the rollout of the vaccine for Covid-19, other important priorities for the UK must be delivered as we seek to recover from the pandemic. Establishing working relationships and collaborations with other like-minded businesses from across the Thames Valley will be crucial for making progress against these priorities and will help us to deliver benefits for patients right across the UK.”
Paul Britton, CEO of the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce said:
“As the UK endures the impact of the pandemic, and the Thames Valley seeks to position itself to contribute to the Government’s pursuit of a levelling up agenda, the Chamber of Commerce welcomes Pfizer into the future regional, national and global recovery plan.
“The Thames Valley is home to some of the most internationally competitive sectors including life sciences and global centres of excellence.
“Last year we were asked by Government to help develop and lead a Thames Valley life sciences sector deal, which allowed us to facilitate a coherent, single, business voice within our members and it is fantastic that Pfizer have come onboard and will be part of that mission.”
