Details from Rob:  With the backdrop of the significant challenges facing the UK economy, the latest budget has to be rated as anaemic at best. The big challenges of fixing the burgeoning welfare budget, investing in defence, and most importantly, rocket boosting economic growth were largely left until a later date with the Chancellor seeming happy to forecast around 1% growth over the next 5 years.  A multitude of inconsequential handouts, or breathing space as the Chancellor regularly intoned, reminded me more of the King’s Maundy Thursday Coins bestowed on his subjects which are symbolic rather than intrinsically valuable. Even the initially interesting incentive of a Founders relief from CGT is fraught with uncertainty and bureaucracy once you dig into the detail. So, I am disappointed as you can guess, but more at our next Economic briefing in November.
