Marsh colleagues in Reading came together for an evening of fun, friendly competition and fundraising at a charity quiz night in support of SAFE – Saving Abandoned Fly Grazing Equines, a registered charity dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating horses and ponies in need.
SAFE was founded in winter 2014 in response to a local crisis, when 38 horses and ponies were left abandoned in a field in Binfield, Berkshire. Since then, the charity has been run by a small group of horse-loving volunteers across Berkshire and Surrey, who generously give their time to help abandoned and neglected equines. Their work is guided by the charity’s core mission: the three R’s – Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome.
The horses and ponies that come into SAFE’s care often arrive frightened, timid and in poor health, having had little or no human contact. With patience, commitment and the support of vets and farriers, the volunteers help build trust and nurse each animal back to health, giving them the chance of a brighter future.
Supporting charities like SAFE is increasingly important. There are many horses in the local area still needing help, while equine rescue and rehoming organisations across England and Wales continue to face immense pressure. Rising vet bills, feed costs and the growing number of animals requiring care mean financial support is vital to help charities like SAFE continue their life-changing work.
To play their part, Marsh hosted a charity quiz night and raffle for staff, and also invited three SAFE volunteers to join the evening. The event brought colleagues together in support of a meaningful cause, building on previous fundraising efforts such as bake sales. Marsh also plans to continue supporting SAFE with more fundraising events in 2027.
The evening raised an impressive £884 for the charity.

Thank you so much for organising the quiz on 16th June on behalf of SAFE. On behalf of those that attended; myself, Helen and Lucinda, we very much enjoyed ourselves and appreciate the monies raised that will help towards the running costs of our charity. SAFE is entirely run by volunteers and is funded by events such as these along with public donations.
The event was a great example of Marsh colleagues coming together to make a real difference, helping to support a local organisation whose dedication gives vulnerable horses and ponies a second chance.
