KPMG UK appoints Steve Hickman as South Central Office Senior Partner

KPMG UK has appointed Steve Hickman to lead the firm’s South Central hub.

Steve will be responsible for a team of more than 750 people across its Reading and Southampton offices.

He has worked for KPMG UK for more than 20 years in various parts of the business and takes on this pivotal role following his leadership of the firm’s Family Business team.

Steve takes over on 4 January from Emma Gibson, who is relinquishing the Office Senior Partner role ahead of her retirement on 31 March.

In his new role, Steve will oversee the growth of the firm’s audit, tax and advisory businesses across the region.

Steve started his KPMG career in transaction advisory before working in restructuring, then debt advisory, supporting over 120 transactions globally. Since 2016, he has been a full-time client lead partner focusing on large family businesses, private equity backed companies and plcs across a range of sectors.

Commenting on his appointment, Steve said: “Our South Central hub is part of a vibrant and fast-growing market, with an exciting community of businesses spanning everything from technology and life sciences to advanced manufacturing.

“These sectors are likely to feature prominently in the Government’s modern industrial strategy, making it an exciting time to take the reins. Emma’s leadership has brought us to a fantastic place, and I look forward to working closely with the team she’s built, supporting a culture where everyone feels valued, supported and empowered, working together to deliver great outcomes for our clients.”

Emma Gibson added: “It’s been a great honour and privilege to lead the team across our South Central hub and work hand in hand with the businesses that make our region so special.

“Steve’s appointment is brilliant news for KPMG locally because he recognises the huge potential among the region’s business community. I look forward to seeing how the firm evolves to support those companies – large and small – with his direction.”
