Broadcaster and sports presenter Gabby Logan has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Bucks New University (Bucks), as the University celebrated the final day of its graduation week.
The honorary award, presented during a graduation ceremony on Friday 18 September at the Wycombe Swan theatre, was given to Gabby in recognition of her contribution to broadcasting and sport, as well as her commitment to supporting the next generation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Gabby said: “I’m delighted to accept this award and look forward to being part of the University’s community of students and staff, and to supporting its long-held mission to transform the lives of students at Bucks New University.”
Gabby also shared some of the lessons she has learned throughout her career, encouraging graduates to embrace opportunities and take risks.
“I took a leap of faith. I was offered a job at Sky Sports in London. I loved sport but I didn’t really see many women talking about it on TV or radio. I thought that maybe it was a route to get to London where I might be able to find a job in news or entertainment TV.
“But the world was changing, and there was an appetite for more women to work in sports broadcasting. Sky understood that and gave me a chance. Right place. Right time. But only because I had taken a risk.”
Following the ceremony, Gabby spent an hour with some of Bucks’ sport and health graduates, answering questions and sharing her experiences. The informal Q&A session gave graduates the opportunity to ask Gabby about her career, working in the world of sport and the lessons she has learned along the way, as they prepare to take their own next steps.
The event brought Bucks’ graduation week to a close, with graduates, friends, families and University staff coming together to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2026.
