Electrical specialist TECC has marked an important milestone in its growth with the official opening of its new premises at Cheney Manor, Swindon.
Pete and Maria McCallum, and the TECC team welcomed over 35 local businesses and Swindon Mayor Cllr Neil Hopkins , to celebrate the opening and showcase the company’s new facilities which included a training area for young apprentices and a showroom highlighting modern and greener systems, EV chargers and solar panels.
Swindon Mayor Cllr Neil Hopkins attended with the Mayor Consort Cllr Jane Milner Barry to see how a local family-run business like TECC is supporting the local business community.
Cllr Hopkins said: “I was delighted to be invited to the opening of these new facilities. What particularly impressed me is the focus on training and development of young people and the commitment to supporting them in their employment or through local colleges or work experience.
“This company is helping to train our future specialist engineers. It is wonderful that TECC puts so much emphasis into that aspect of their business.”
Pete, who is a co-managing director of the company with his wife Maria, has always put an emphasis on training and apprenticeships and works with New College and others to offer opportunities to young people.
This year alone the team has offered work experience to T level students, supported its own apprentices and offered help to those who are in the middle of their training elsewhere. Both Pete & Maria grew up in Swindon and started the business in 2006, it has gone from strength to strength, with 20 per cent of the company being family members.
The team is now 26 strong and one of their apprentices Martyn Masters was recently named ‘Rising Star’ in the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards.
Martyn took a leap of faith at the age of 37 to become an apprentice and is now a central member of the team.
“This year alone,” Pete said. “We’ve been proud to offer around 1,400 hours of training and experience to young people interested in moving into this profession. For us it’s about mindset and commitment, not about age.
“Martyn has proved that as have our other valued members of staff who are out in Swindon, Wiltshire and beyond helping people every day.”
The move to the new larger premises represents another step forward for the company and provides the team with a base from which to grow further.
TECC have created a dedicated electrical training bay inside the warehouse. It has been designed to mimic many of the elements that you would find when carrying out a full house rewire, giving apprentices the opportunity to practice installing, wiring, testing and fault finding in a safe, controlled environment.
The official opening gave guests an opportunity to see the new premises, meet members of the team and learn more about the services TECC provides to commercial and domestic customers.
For Pete & Maria, the move is also an opportunity to recognise the contribution of the team while looking ahead to the company’s next stage of development.
“Opening our new premises at Cheney Manor is a proud moment for everyone at TECC and gives us a fantastic base for the future, said Pete.
“We work with both businesses and householders, and our industry is evolving as more people look at greener technologies such as solar panels and EV chargers alongside their wider electrical requirements.
“We also care deeply about bringing committed people into the industry and giving them the opportunity to develop valuable skills and experience.
“There is a huge amount of knowledge within our sector and it is important that businesses like our’s play a part in passing that on to the next generation.”
TECC is an electrical contractor working with commercial and domestic customers, providing a range of electrical services including solar panel and EV charger installations.
