DRPG celebrates its sponsorship in the lead up to Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Global creative communications group, DRPG is celebrating its continued involvement in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games this summer. As well as being announced as an Official Event Services Provider and working closely with Birmingham 2022. Individuals from the Hartlebury, London, Manchester and Windsor DRPG offices are going above and beyond by volunteering as part of the ‘Commonwealth Collective’ and nominating fellow colleagues to take part in the Queen’s Baton Relay as Batonbearers.

Luke Bartlett, Proofreader at DRPG, secured his spot in the Commonwealth Collective as a photo team member within the media relations team. He will be responsible for coordinating photographers during the events. He said, “I’m excited to meet other volunteers that are equally as enthusiastic about what this means for us as locals. I have worked in the West Midlands my whole career, and this is going to be a massive coup for the 2022 Games to be held here and will bring eyes to Birmingham. And rightly so, it’s a fantastic place to work, live and be creative!”

As a sponsor of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, DRPG has additionally nominated four Batonbearers to take part in the domestic leg of the Queen’s Baton Relay. Amy Ward, Senior Response Manager, was nominated for her hard work and dedication within the communications and events industry.

Amy commented, “It came as a real surprise to be nominated as a Batonbearer. The thing I find so special about the Commonwealth Games is how inclusive the event is and the fact it brings everyone together, people such as me, a DRPG team member based in the southeast of England is still able to get involved and celebrate alongside my colleagues across the UK, Canada and beyond”. Amy kicked off the first of four DRPG led relays on Wednesday 6th July in Windsor.

The Group has delivered several official events in partnership with the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games including broadcasts, the one-year to go celebrations, and most recently the uniform unveiling for the ‘Commonwealth Collective’ as well as hosting the orientation broadcasts. DRPG has certainly concentrated on this engagement and is set to continue its involvement as it moves into the Birmingham Commonwealth 2022 Games legacy for the local communities.

Dale Parmenter, CEO of DRPG explains, “The pride across the business is immense this month, as the activity increases in the lead up to the Games. We’ve enjoyed being a key provider for the Games’ activations, events and broadcasts and are looking forward to continuing that support as we move into creating a legacy for the area to benefit from the positive collaboration and investment into the West Midlands.

“We’re particularly excited to be providing production support for the upcoming To The Streets! Musical, which will be touring the parks of Birmingham over the summer. Another fitting example of combining multiple business expertise and resources to create something truly original for the community.”

The musical, inspired by the 1963 Bristol Bus Boycott, is being developed by the Birmingham Hippodrome, China Plate, DRPG and Warwick Arts Centre as part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival.

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will see around 4,500 athletes from 72 nations and territories compete in 19 sports across 14 competition venues, from 28 July until 8 August 2022. As the biggest event ever to be held in the West Midlands, it is expected to attract more than one million spectators to the city and have a global TV audience of 1.5 billion.
