The DoubleTree by Hilton Swindon introduces the Hilton Bees!

One of Swindon’s leading hotels The DoubleTree by Hilton has been exploring how it can further expand its sustainability work and make best use of its extensive Swindon property.

Andy Gelleburn General Manager in Swindon said “The team here in Swindon were considering the opportunity to make a difference from our hotel and have decided to help by donating and housing our very own colony of bees”.

Emma Richards Director of Sales at the Hotel added “We also ran a local competition, and our bees are known as HoneyBees by Hilton!”

The bees have been delivered and while the hotel does not have the expertise to look after the hive, the hotel works with Mark Gale at BeesMAX to make sure the bees are kept in the best of health.

Andy Gelleburn continued “We have learnt so much, such as did you know 30% of UK Honeybee colonies die out each year? Our environment cannot afford this loss as over 85% of the earth’s plant species require pollinators to exist.

The HoneyBees by Hilton Swindon survived the winter very well and on the Hive Stream you can see several thousand in the hive beginning to organise themselves to initiate spring breeding.  The Queen is expected to start laying eggs in early March”.
