The South Bucks Riding for the Disabled Group is committed to improving the health and well-being of children and adults with disabilities through riding and equine interaction. This year, Coaching4Careers (C4C) is proud to once again support this remarkable charity, with two of its team members, Emma Ford and Julie Thomson, serving as Trustees.
Located in Fulmer, just north of Slough, the South Bucks Riding for the Disabled Group harnesses the therapeutic benefits of horses to make a meaningful impact in the lives of its participants. Regular riding sessions help improve core strength, balance, and coordination, while providing a supportive, inclusive environment that combats isolation and loneliness. Their work has a positive effect not only on riders but also on volunteers, enhancing overall well-being and happiness.
The Group supports a diverse range of riders, from children at Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools to Mari Durward-Akhurst, who recently competed for Great Britain at the 2024 Paralympic Games, bringing home a bronze medal. They also collaborate with local care homes, offering “Tea with Ponies” sessions for residents with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, providing both joy and therapeutic benefits.
