Chamber Hosts Second Political Working Lunch Of The Year

Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce (TVCC) recently hosted a highly anticipated Political Working Lunch (PWL) with Freddie van Mierlo, MP for Henley and Thame, which was the second PWL of the 2025 Political Engagement works programme. The event was hosted at The Relais Hotel, Henley and expertly facilitated by Justin Govier, Head of IBB Commercial, IBB Law.

During the afternoon, Freddie discussed, in depth, a large range topics with those in attendance, covering local, regional, and national issues. Freddie vehemently encouraged a rather direct and frank conversation regarding barriers to business such as growth-inhibiting regulatory pathways, a positive reference for the work of the chamber to push businesses and politicians closer together.

Opinions on several ‘quick-fire’ questions regarding specific infrastructure projects such as the expansion of Heathrow Airport and East West Rail were also given. The event also saw a range of larger national issues, including the upcoming changes in legislation and devolution of power from Westminster to the regions, following release of the English Devolution whitepaper.

Paul Britton, CEO, TVCC said: “The Political Working Lunch series is an important part of our commitment to fostering a collaborative environment within the region.  Freddie’s participation underscores the importance of bridging the gap between businesses and policymakers.”

Justin Govier, Head of IBB Commercial said: “I was delighted to host a political working lunch with Freddie van Mierlo, where he shared insights into his background, his constituency, and his passion for the environment and life & health sciences. His openness to questions and candid responses made for a truly engaging discussion. It was also a pleasure to connect with business representatives from across the region, fostering valuable conversations on the issues that matter most. Thank you to all who joined us!”

The TVCC Political Working Lunch series has been running for over twenty years and continues to be valued by local employers to provide a platform between local political figures, and a link into Westminster.
