Artwork created to provide comfort and reflection for families at Royal Berkshire Hospital

A group of local artists have generously donated their time and creative skills to create a large seasonal countryside artwork at Royal Berkshire Hospital, intended to provide a sense of calm, comfort and reflection for families visiting the hospital following the death of a loved one.

The artwork is located in a corridor leading to the hospital’s bereavement and mortuary areas – a space often visited by families at a very difficult time. The piece has been created to help soften the environment and offer a more peaceful, welcoming setting.

Eighteen members of the Mixed Media Monday group worked together over five weekends during October and November to create the artwork, using emulsion and acrylic paints.

Amanda, from the Mixed Media Monday group, said:

We were delighted to be involved in such a meaningful project, with 18 members of the Mixed Media Monday group giving their skill and time to create the countryside scene. We all loved working together on the piece and were very touched by the kind words from staff as we painted. We hope the finished artwork will offer a small sense of comfort to families during an incredibly difficult time. It’s been wonderful to be part of something so collaborative and uplifting.

Jo Warrior, Charity Director at Royal Berks Charity, added:

This artwork has been created with great care and sensitivity, and its location makes it particularly significant. We are very grateful to the artists for helping us create a calmer, more supportive environment for families attending the hospital’s bereavement services.

 With thanks to –

Amanda, Sue, Sue, Peter, Tizzy, Maria, Glora, Helen, Jane, Janina, Julia, Kate, Janet, John, Nina, Lesley, Ruth, Hina and Jade. Artists of the Mixed Media Monday group, for their creativity and generosity of time in creating this wonderful mural.
