Henley based timeshare claims firm, European Consumer Claims (ECC) are making huge inroads against rogue, high pressure timeshare sales operations. The total amount of compensation awards secured by ECC for July 2023 was £620,389.
This is a 40.2% increase on July 2022, which was itself an incredibly prolific month with court wins totalling £442,362 for their clients.
Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce members ECC seek and win redress for people who have been mis-sold timeshares, mainly in Spain but also elsewhere. Most Spanish timeshare companies deliberately ignored consumer protection laws for decades, writing illegal contracts for the entire time.
Most of their victims were/are British.
“We fight to not only get our client’s unwanted timeshare contracts cancelled, but where possible we look for financial compensation from their resort,” explains CEO Andrew Cooper.
The average timeshare compensation award secured is around £20,000. However Peter and Janice Cranstone from Castlederg in Northern Ireland were awarded £40,400 this month. Two other couples from Rotherham and Wrexham won £37,500 and £35,950 respectively.
“These people are first and foremost pleased to be free from the expensive commitment of owning a timeshare,” explains Cooper. “Being awarded tens of thousands of pounds as well is obviously very welcome news.”
ECC won 37 separate court judgments in July. The bulk of those were against CLC World (18 awards worth £325,000), Marriott (7 awards totalling £120,579) and ANFI (4 awards valued at £42,962). The remaining 8 awards were spread between various other resorts around Europe.
“The time is right for people looking for justice over being treated badly by a timeshare company,” says Andrew Cooper. “The courts have never been more sympathetic to their cause.”
