During the current pandemic, Wiltshire based company Greenmachine have continued to help and support people across the Thames Valley through their IT Recycling scheme. Following this success and after discussions with various schools and charities, they have launched a Tech Amnesty programme to help local schools with much needed laptops, tablets and desktop computers.
The idea was borne a few months before Christmas, after the company donated a large number of computers to a local school in Pewsey and then receiving many requests for equipment from schools from across the South West region. During January, local businesses and organisations were offering to become local drop-off points, enabling businesses and individuals a safe non-contact method of donating unused laptops, tablets and computers.
The programme has gained such an amazing amount of support and interest, and reached the desk of BBC Radio Wiltshire and BBC Radio Solent who invited the company to talk about what they were doing to help schools during this difficult time. Requests from almost 30 schools across Wiltshire, Berkshire and Dorset have been received, asking for over 450 laptops, tablets or computers urgently needed for the school children.
Simon Crisp, Managing Director said “The offer of donations has been so generous, with businesses and individuals already kindly donating around 300 laptops, tablets and computers. Our IT technicians are busy testing, upgrading and setting up the donated IT equipment ready to begin much awaited distribution to the schools”.
