Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce was pleased to welcome Lee Dillon, Member of Parliament for Newbury, to its latest Political Working Lunch, hosted by Berkshire Youth at its Waterside Youth and Community Centre.
Opening the event, Lee Dillon shared insights from Westminster, his roles on the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee, Procedure Committee and Backbench Business Committee. He addressed key issues facing businesses in Newbury and the wider Thames Valley, including skills shortages, opportunities for young people, the impact of AI on jobs, housing affordability and the transport links businesses need to grow.
Reflecting on the event, Lee Dillon MP said:
It was great to join Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and young people for such a worthwhile discussion. We talked about some of the biggest challenges facing Newbury and West Berkshire, from skills and housing to transport and the opportunities new technology can bring. Berkshire Youth does an outstanding job supporting young people to build confidence, gain experience and achieve their potential. If we’re serious about creating opportunities and supporting local businesses to grow, it’s essential that young people have a seat at the table and a voice in these conversations
The Political Working Lunch series continues to provide a platform for open conversation between the business community and political representatives, helping to ensure that the views of Thames Valley businesses are heard at both local and national levels.
