Cityfibre’s Clayton Nash provides his perspective on a world of changing digital connectivity

Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce welcomed Clayton Nash, Strategy Director, CityFibre as keynote speaker at Windsor Debates.  In the context of a world of changing digital connectivity, Clayton provided an overview of the telecoms market-place; what’s changed and changing (e.g., continued market consolidation) and the economic opportunity for growth before us.

The UK is truly a success story, he stated.  With around £25bn investment in the ground, since 2018, this largely private sector investment has truly transformed the UK telecoms infrastructure which is now enabling the digital revolution we are experiencing.  Having replaced the whole network in the past 10-years our telecom infrastructure is truly ‘fit for the future’ and future proofed to meet the estimated 20% annual growth ‘year on year’ of internet traffic.

Clayton outlined that this enabling transformation has the potential to deliver between £30-80bn worth of economic growth and uplift to UK plc, bringing societal benefit (bridging the digital divide/enabling digital inclusion), environmental benefits (watch here) and helping to boost local economies, creating jobs, and enhancing public services and better education through faster, more reliable internet resulting from Cityfibre’s / wider industry investment.

And what / where next … Clayton left us with a very philosophical thought. ‘That prediction is very difficult, especially about the future’.
