Thames Valley Businesses Invited to Provide Safe Spaces for Vital Peer Support Groups

Demand for community-based mental health and peer support is rising, and businesses across the Thames Valley are being called on to play a vital role in supporting local communities.

Mind’s Big Mental Health Report 2025 highlights the continued pressure on mental health services and reinforces the need for accessible, community-based support. Increasingly, national charities and policymakers recognise that prevention and recovery cannot rely on statutory services alone.

Hope After Harm is responding to this need through its professionally facilitated peer support group sessions. These sessions provide safe, confidential spaces where adults affected by harm, abuse or violence can connect with others who share similar experiences.

Following the success of existing groups and growing demand for support, Hope After Harm is now seeking additional venues across the Thames Valley to expand its reach and support more people locally.

Peer support plays a crucial role in recovery, helping individuals rebuild trust, reduce isolation and regain a sense of connection. Hosting sessions in familiar, accessible community spaces encourages participation and ensures support is available to those who may otherwise feel unable to attend.

One participant shared:

I felt safe and non-judged, and it helped me realise I’m not the only one going through this. Sharing with others who had similar experiences really helped, and the small group made it feel more comfortable. I learnt practical tools I can use day to day.

Hope After Harm is appealing to members of the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce who may be able to offer the free use of a private room in the following areas:

  • Slough
  • Windsor
  • Maidenhead
  • Wokingham
  • Bracknell
  • Amersham
  • High Wycombe
  • North or South Oxford

Suitable spaces should accommodate up to 15 people and include access to toilet facilities and tea and coffee-making provisions.

Sessions are held once a month for two hours and are fully facilitated by Hope After Harm. No staffing support is required from the host business—only the use of the space.

Businesses that can offer a suitable venue are encouraged to get in touch with christabel.boersma@hopeafterharm.org.uk
