Why Slough Remains at the Centre of the UK’s Data Economy

Equinix’s continued investment in Slough is another marker of the town’s strategic importance to the UK’s digital infrastructure.

Its position is the result of long-term fundamentals: proximity to London, dense fibre connectivity, established power capacity and the scale of the Slough Trading Estate. These conditions have enabled operators to build at pace and at scale.

Over time, clustering has strengthened that advantage. The concentration of facilities reduces latency, improves interconnection and creates a network effect that attracts hyperscalers, enterprises and global platforms.

As demand for cloud, AI and secure data services accelerates, Slough is not simply hosting data centres — it is anchoring a critical part of the UK’s digital economy.
