Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Els Freshwater as Visiting Professor (Prehospital and Emergency Care) in its School of Health and Social Care Professions.
Dr Freshwater joins from the Scottish Ambulance Service, where she is currently the Clinical Lead for Advanced Practice (Critical Care). A registered paramedic, Dr Freshwater has an extensive clinical background as an Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Consultant Paramedic.
Els has previously been seconded to Health Education England as the National Education and Training Lead (Paramedics) and as a Training Programme Lead for Advancing Practice in Urgent and Emergency Care. Els was awarded the Fellowship of the College of Paramedics and is an active member within the professional body, particularly around education, prescribing and critical care.
She is an examiner for the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care, Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) on the Diploma in Major Incident Management and the Diploma in Immediate Medical Care. She was previously a paramedic representative on the Faculty Advisory Board and is a member of the Clinical Standards Committee.
Dr Freshwater said: “I am very excited about this new role and I am really looking forward to working with the teams at BNU to enhance clinical education, research, and knowledge exchange in the fields of prehospital and emergency care, ensuring the development of highly skilled and knowledgeable healthcare professionals.”
