Earlier this year the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce (TVCC) submitted its response to the Industrial Strategy green paper outlining 10 headline messages and key challenges to Government. (Submission can be viewed HERE)
The Chamber welcomes the announcement by the CEO of Siemens UKI and head of the Industrial Digitalisation taskforce established by the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) confirming that the Industrial Strategy White Paper should be released before the end of the year. “The change of Prime Minister last year, and then the recent General Election, may have delayed the formation of the government’s Industrial Strategy – but there is now a renewed sense of urgency to press ahead”, commented Juergen Maier.
Paul Britton, Chief Executive of TVCC further added: “We trust recent political events have served to sharpen the focus of our Government on the needs of the whole of the UK and the importance of investing in the success of regions like the Thames Valley as cornerstones to the wider industrial strategy.
“Ensuring the Thames Valley remains successful generates the income to enable the Government to invest more widely and generate wealth. This is our continued call and, by way of example, this includes moving beyond politicised discussions about spending and secure the appropriate investment to deliver the Western Rail Link to London Heathrow as part of a wider infrastructure spend in the south east.”
