Outside ideas (Oi) are thrilled to have registered as a donation centre for The Tech Amnesty by Green Machine Computers.
Oi is all about helping people to thrive in life, and their happiness comes from making people do what they do better. That’s why they’re bursting with excitement about The Tech Amnesty, an initiative to help students get old laptops and tablets for virtual learning during COVID-19. Outside ideas has signed up as a drop-off location for donating these gadgets.
Green Machine Computers, the company behind this brilliant initiative, first launched the project in 2021. With kids having to learn from home due to COVID-19, new problems arose. Not all of them could access computers and tablets for virtual learning.
Simon Crisp, founder of Green Machine computers, came up with this genius idea to have people donate as many laptops and tablets for the kids to use. So far, they’ve been able to donate approximately 500 laptops/tablets to different schools and charities across Wiltshire and Dorset, and are looking to expand their support to a larger area.
The project is back again this year, bigger and better. Now Oi HQ is playing a role in the initiative; we’ve registered as a donation point for the old iPads, tablets, and laptops.
“The work that Green Machine does is inspiring. We are so happy to throw our support behind the team and the incredible work that they do,” says Peter Mols, founder of Outside ideas.
“Most of us have gadgets lying around the house that we don’t use anymore. There’s a kid out there who would be so grateful to have that old laptop or tablet. It could literally change their life and make it better. Plus, you don’t have to worry about your data being compromised. Green Machine wipes all the data from your devices before starting the refurbishing process. Your data will remain private.”
Simon said “This year, we want the Tech Amnesty appeal to help even more people; that’s why we have expanded our reach and included more charities and non-profit organisations to our list of people to help. We are so grateful to Outside ideas for generously offering to host one of our donation boxes; enabling us to collect unwanted technology from a wider area, and thus, benefit even more people.
Pete and Sarah continually support charities and businesses through their organisation, so we are pleased to have them on board. I cannot think of a nicer bunch of people to look after the public’s IT equipment”
