Earlier this month, the much awaited “Invest 2035: the UK’s modern Industrial Strategy” was published, the government’s proposed plan to ease the investor journey and create long-term, inclusive, secure, and sustainable growth.
In response to the government’s invitation, and on behalf of our members across the region, TVCC intend to submit a consultation response, to help inform the development of the new industrial strategy, including comments on the evidence, analysis, and policy ideas.
For this virtual session, we welcome Alex Veitch, Director of Policy & Insights, and Jonny Haseldine, Policy Manager from the British Chambers of Commerce.
This session is an invitation only event and for our Business Alliance and Thames Valley Assembly members. Please contact Alexandra Keane to secure your place.

Presentation of Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) Inflation Report
Speaker
Andrew Holder, Agent for Central Southern England for the Bank of England
The Bank of England’s Agency for Central Southern England visits the Thames Valley on a quarterly basis, to gather information directly from local business leaders.
It is this data, together with equivalent data from the 11 other regional agents that is fed back to the MPC in order to make a decision on the position of interest rates.
Andrew will speak about the Bank’s most recent report and the outlook for the UK economy in terms of their projections for inflation and growth. There will be plenty of opportunity for members to ask questions and for you to air your comments and concerns on the current economic situation and how that effects businesses in the Thames Valley.
This should prove to be a very informative briefing where you will also have the opportunity to network with other professionals.
Who should attend?
The event will particularly appeal to our professional service members; however, we see these as essential business intelligence for all business owners and directors.

HR Forum: Adapting Your Employment & Workplace Practices
Our HR Forum, sponsored by BP Collins, brings together senior HR practitioners from our larger members to hear the latest HR trends, share knowledge, learn from first-hand experience, and exchange opinions with other like-minded professionals from across all sectors.
There are soon to be five generations in the workforce, each with their own communication styles, workplace expectations, and working styles. Effectively managing multiple generations will require employers to foster inclusivity, promote open communication, and leverage the strengths of each generation.
The new UK Employment Rights Bill (expect to be published in mid-October) is also anticipated to add complexity to employment practices. In this HR Forum, we will tackle both these issues.
Kindly hosted by BP Collins, we have a great speakers line up, including:
Marcus Johnson (Managing Director) and Hannah Weedan (Business Director) – Signet Recruitment and Retention. Marcus and Hannah will look at Gen Z in the workplace and how companies can rethink traditional HR approaches to engage this population.
Jeff Kong – Solicitor, BP Collins. Jeff will give a summary of the Employment Rights Bill and what employers should expect from the proposals.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and share best practice after each speaker. The open forum at the end will give the opportunity to discuss any other pressing HR matters and future HR Forum topics.

Thames Valley Assembly Parliamentary Question Time
Brought to you by the Chambers’ Thames Valley Assembly (TVA), this Parliamentary Question Time (PQT) will provide opportunity for Parliamentarians and businesses to engage on what is important for the future competitiveness of the Thames Valley.
This event is perfect for attendees to take a moment to consider a reset and what this would mean for the region.
The PQT will provide invaluable opportunity for members to engage national and regional Parliamentarians on the key topic of competitiveness and economic development. We learn more about their ambitions for the region and perspectives on what has made this region so successful.
How do we sustain the levels of growth and increased productivity to ensure we remain one of the UK’s most successful regions? What are the ingredients of success? How and when do business best engage and lobby Parliamentarians effectively? What might our role be in any reshaped ‘levelling up’ agenda? Whilst AI is clearly now the dominant media story, we’ll take time to consider “whether we are going to digitise in a way that is ethical, that is inclusive, that is sustainable.”
Our PQT will be hosted at the University of Reading and we will be welcomed by Pro-Vice Chancellor Robert van der Noort. We are delighted to announce the first of our confirmed speakers for the event –
- Jack Rankin, MP for Windsor
- Yuan Yang, MP for Earley and Woodley
We encourage invited guests to bring their questions forward on the future competitiveness of the Thames Valley, which we anticipate may include the following topics –
- The state of the NHS – reflections on the Darzi Report
- Skills for Growth – what does Skills England mean for the region?
- Constraints to Investment (e.g. Connectivity, Delivering Net Zero ambitions, Planning, Power and WRLtH)
- Growth is the Challenge – how can the Thames Valley best contribute to UK plc – Investment and Trade is key
- Partnerships – the co-development of, and the solutions they can bring in, presenting the Thames Valley to the world
Format
- Introduction by Paul Britton, CEO, TVCC and Robert Van Der Noort, Pro – Vice Chancellor, University of Reading
- Welcome from our TVA Chair followed by Q&A Panel discussion
- Q&A with attendees
This event is open to Thames Valley Assembly and Business Alliance members only. Please contact your Account Manager or Customer Services to book your place.
If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Joe Richings in the first instance.
