We are proud of our reputation for running topical, high quality, diverse events across the Thames Valley. From sector-focused round tables to our annual International Technology Conference, we bring business people together to share best practice, develop new business opportunities and learn from each other.
Here is a brief description of some of the events that form our calendar.
Held regionally throughout the year, our Business Breakfasts bring together the local business community. With topical themes and high quality speakers, these events are perfect for those businesses looking for an inclusive, friendly and professional platform.
Our Banner Networking events are held across the Thames Valley and are an ideal opportunity for the Chamber and its members to showcase the success of local, regional and international businesses based or founded in the region.
It is a fantastic opportunity for companies to network, build contacts and create new connections with other local businesses.
Bank of England Inflation Report
The Bank of England’s Agency for Central Southern England visits the Thames Valley on a quarterly basis, to gather information directly from local business leaders. It is this data, together with equivalent data from the 11 other regional agents, that is fed back to the MPC in order that they can make a decision on the position of interest rates. The events take place one week after the Inflation Report has been published and the Bank’s agent summarises the report and takes questions from the delegates.
Education, Employment and Skills
Our Education, Employment and Skills events programme is dedicated to bridging the gap between business and education. Inspirational, interactive and educational, each event explores key policy issues around the ‘skills gap’ providing delegates with best practice guides. With a high calibre of expert speakers, panel debates and informative sessions, attendees have the opportunity to engage, learn and hear about the latest developments on the subject.
Our Corporate members have the opportunity to get involved, share experiences and expertise as sponsors and participate as speakers and delegates at interactive round tables, forums and discussions. The programme has been updated to include breakfast and lunchtime events, in addition to the traditional dinners.
Our International Trade events programme is targeted towards conducting international business and making contacts. These events provide advice, guidance and information on the many aspects of international trade, whether it be exploring opportunities in overseas markets, topical issues in the world of global trading, business cultural and communication plus much more.
Political Working Lunch
Held regularly throughout the year, delegates will gain a deeper understanding of the structure and workings of the Westminster (UK) or Brussels (Europe) political world, learning how the political landscape can help with business issues. A Thames Valley based Member of Parliament or South East Member of the European Parliament (subject to availability in the Parliamentary calendar) is invited to speak at each event so it is an ideal opportunity to hear from political influencers. An informal Q&A session forms part of the event, allowing for informal feedback.
Each event is held at the Microsoft Campus in Thames Valley Park, Reading and due to generous sponsorship from Microsoft, we are able to offer this lunch free of charge for Chamber members.
This forum seeks to engage with all property and construction professionals with an agenda that covers topical and relevant issues within the sectors. Topics are derived from either business intelligence drawn from within property experts in membership or headlines created by changes in legislation or policy initiatives. The group is aimed at consultants, developers, contractors, service providers and local authority planners.
This forums delivers keynotes from the industry’s top technology executives and is targeted at all members who have an interest in technology and future trends. Our flagship event is the International Technology Conference which takes place in May each year, at Microsoft UK, Reading.
Thames Valley Chamber Business Awards
Launched in 2018, our Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of our members and businesses in the Thames Valley. Feeding directly into the British Chambers of Commerce Awards we were thrilled when four of our members won the regional awards. With 11 categories in total, we celebrated with over 230 members at the Reading Hilton, being expertly looked after by host Mark Foster. You can see the list of winners here. The 2019 Awards have now been launched and will take place on June 27th 2019.
