Over the next three years Activate Learning, along with project partners, want to work with local SME employers to address the existing skills gap between young people leaving education with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths qualifications and the needs of the STEAM industries in Berkshire.

Advisa are leading on an employability programme, working with partners to align schools and colleges with local employers to develop employability skills and talent in our young people.  The programme will nurture local talent, develop employability skills and confidence and teach young people about local career opportunities.

Who is this event for?

This event is an ideal opportunity for employers to talk to us about the issues they have, help us identify where the skills gaps are from an employer perspective and discuss how we can work together using a variety of proposed solutions.

This event will be of particular appeal to employers from the following sectors – Science, Engineering, Construction, Health, Accounting, Computing, Digital, Technology, Creative Arts, Motor Vehicle (vehicle maintenance and repair – particular if electric), Manufacturing and Architectural industries.

The Further Education White Paper ‘Skills for Jobs’ published back in January 2021 emphasized the urgent need to realign post 16 education with the needs of employers. This reinforced the issues raised in the Thames Valley Berkshire Skills priority report statements as far back as 2018.

Thames Valley Berkshire LEP commissioned the Industry Specialist Teaching and Knowledge Exchange Programme (ISTKEP) and the Berkshire Education Employer Partnership (BEEP) projects and now with financial support from the European Social Fund we are going facilitate the changes needed.
