Thames Valley Chamber is proud of its reputation for running topical, high quality, diverse programmes of events at many of the region’s most iconic venues. From sector focused business round tables to International Conferences we bring business people together to share best practice, develop new business opportunities and learn from each other.
In 2018, event content will increasingly focus on campaigns that our members tell us are most important to them. These include energy, technology, regional competitiveness, and going global. Through our events and campaign programme we want to celebrate and share what’s great about our local business communities. Here is a brief description of some of our event themes for 2018:
Bank of England Inflation Report
In order to maintain price stability, the Government has set the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) a target for the annual inflation rate of the Consumer Price Index of 2%. Subject to that, the MPC is also required to support the Government’s objective of maintaining high and stable growth and employment. The inflation report is published quarterly by bank staff under the guidance of the members of the MPC.
The Bank of England’s Agency for Central Southern England visits the Thames Valley on a quarterly basis, to gather information directly from local business leaders. It is this data, together with equivalent data from the 11 other regional agents, that is fed back to the MPC in order that they can make a decision on the position of interest rates.
The events take place one week after the Inflation Report has been published. The Bank’s agent summarises the report and takes questions from the delegates.
Business & Education
A comprehensive events programme dedicated to bridging the gap between business and education. Inspirational, interactive and educational each event explores key policy issues around the ‘skills gap’ providing delegates with best practice guides. High calibre of expert speakers, panel debates and informative sessions attendees have the opportunity to engage, learn and hear about the latest developments on the subject.
Exclusively for Corporate-level members, the purpose of this programme is to share the insights of the most successful companies in the region with peers. Our aim is to provide a forum that stimulates ideas for innovation amongst the attendees. The objective is to provide members with case studies of how others are adopting successful tactics. We aim to provide a peer to peer networking to allow for offline further discussion and cooperation. The series aim is to provide a platform for companies to showcase their activities, products and leaders.
Business Leaders will cover their chosen subject whether international issues, business growth, change management, rebranding, diversification and industry insights to share their thoughts on successful strategies, leadership, management and market positioning. Events are held throughout the Thames Valley.
International Trade Forum
This comprehensive event programme is targeted towards conducting international business and making contacts. Our programme of events provide advice, guidance and information on the many aspects of international trade, whether it be exploring opportunities in overseas markets, topical issues in the world of global trading, business cultural and communication plus much more.
Political Working Lunch
These events are held on a regular basis throughout the year. Through attendance, businesses will gain an understanding of the structure and workings of the Westminster (UK) or Brussels (Europe) political world, learning how the political landscape can help with business issues.
Delegates are given access to a Thames Valley based Member of Parliament or South East Member of the European Parliament, subject to availability in the Parliamentary calendar. They are an ideal opportunity to hear from political influencers and an informal Q&A session forms part of the event, allowing for informal feedback.
The events are held at the Microsoft Campus in Thames Valley Park, Reading and due to generous sponsorship from Microsoft, we are able to offer this lunch at a complimentary delegate rate for Chamber members.
Property & Construction Group
This group seeks to engage with all property and construction professionals with an agenda that covers topical and relevant issues within the sectors. Topics are derived from either business intelligence drawn from within property experts in membership or headlines created by changes in legislation or policy initiatives. The group is aimed at consultants, developers, contractors, service providers and Local Authority planners.
These Forums delivers keynotes from the industry’s top technology executives and is hosted by some of the key brand names in the industry. Previous hosts have been O2, Symantec, HTC and Cisco. The Forum attracts a broad audience which encompasses IT directors, marketing directors, marketing executives, business owners and anyone with a passion for IT, emerging technology and new innovations. Previous topics covered include flexible working, cybercrime, security, mobility, innovation and emerging products. The Forum is targeted at all levels of membership with an interest in technology and future trends. The flagship event in 2017 was the International Technology Conference which took place on Wednesday 17 May, at the Microsoft Campus in Reading – this is planned to be repeated in 2018.
