SpecialEffect wins Oxfordshire Charity and Community Award 2017

SpecialEffect beat off strong competition to win the 2017 Charity and Community Award for the prestigious Oxfordshire Business Awards. The Charlbury based charity helps children and young people with disabilities to play video games and access technology including eye gaze technology and won the award for their groundbreaking work.

The awards, sponsored by The Oxford Times, recognises community involvement, commitment of staff and the ongoing impact on local disadvantaged groups.

Fundraiser Nick Streeter at SpecialEffect commented: “This is a huge boost and we were up against strong competition! Every charity that was nominated in this category was a winner. The award gives both staff and volunteers confidence highlighting that they are making an important difference and having a positive impact on those in need and we’d like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last ten years.

“We’re also absolutely delighted for Brendon Cross and his team at STL Communications, who won the prestigious Hidden Heroes Comms Business Award, which recognises both individuals and companies in the communications industry that donate their time behind the scenes to help raise money for good causes.

“Brendon, whose MD of STL and VP of SpecialEffect’s inspirational Twin Town Challenge event, which took place in 2014 and again in 2016, has raised a staggering £450,000. Taking place again in 2018 it looks set to be an even bigger and better and the team can’t wait to get started on the project.”
