Topic: Volunteering – Definitely Good for Business

“There’s no money left – good luck!” Little did Liam Byrne, former chief Secretary to the Treasury, realize how his words would come to symbolize the age of austerity we all now face.

In such difficult economic times companies are looking for creative ways to reward and motivate their employees. It is interesting that many organizations are now looking at volunteering as a way of achieving just that. We will be joined this month by Liz Palmer from West Berks EBP, based on New Greenham Park. Liz is Business Development Manager for the EBP and will help us to better understand the range of volunteering opportunities and how they can be used to meet the specific needs of a business, whilst also creating enormous value within the education community.

A business can engage with local schools in a number of ways – from events to work experience. Liz will explain how this has benefits to students and the school, benefits to the employer and benefits to the individual. West Berks EBP will be launching a new Business Ambassador Award in October 2010 to recognize the outstanding contribution that many companies make to local schools. How refreshing to be given an opportunity that benefits all – and costs just a little of your time.
