Speaker: Mark Mathieson, Director of Distribution with Scottish & Southern Energy
Topic: Future Energy World

This month our speaker is Mark Mathieson, Director of Distribution with Scottish & Southern Energy who will be talking about the looming energy difficulties. The EU has set a “20-20” target – achieving a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions and 20% of final energy consumption from renewable sources by 2020; and the UK Government has pledged to cut carbon emissions by 80% by 2050. To meet these targets and the resulting increase in electrical demand there is an urgent need to develop “smarter” technologies as an alternative to tearing up the roads and replacing the aging infrastructure.

Mark will be looking closely at what changes need to be made, how these technologies are being developed and how the future of corporate and consumer energy use is shaping up. Most importantly he will outline the proposed changes and opportunities that are developing as we speak for the Thames Valley region and how these pioneering developments will alter our energy landscape forever.
