Berkshire Overview
Newbury is the largest town in West Berkshire.
Hungerford, Pangbourne, Thatcham, Theale and Tilehurst are
also significant towns. The district is widely recognised
as an area with a high concentration of high-tech firms and
is home to companies such as Atomic Weapons Establishment
(AWE), Bayer, Nextra, Quantel and Vodafone. Tourism and recreation
play an important part within the district which is renowned
for its horse racing interests.
The West Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, or as it was then
called Newbury & District Chamber of Trade, was formed in
1919. The president is Ian Vickerage of Imago Micro Ltd.
