Slough Chamber Awards Gains Support
Friday, 27th November 2009
With the nomination deadline for the Slough Chamber Awards just over one month away, some of Slough’s most respected organisations and individuals have voiced their support of the awards, which aim to recognise the achievements of businesses in the SL postcode area.
The awards, organised by the Slough Chamber of Commerce, have nine categories in total including: Business of the Year; Award for Excellence in People Development; Entrepreneur of the Year; Achievement in International Business; Most Promising New Business; Micro Business of the Year; Excellence in Customer Service; Award for Innovation; and The Green Award.
Commenting Fiona Mactaggart, MP for Slough and chair of the Slough Skills Campaign, which is sponsoring the Award for Excellence in People Development, said: “The Slough Skills campaign is a partnership between businesses, training providers and community representatives which aims to build on the talent of local people by ensuring high quality training and skills development.
We recognise that developing the skills of local people is key to building the success of local business and of raising the aspirations and incomes of Slough’s community. We are therefore pleased to work with the Slough Chamber of Commerce by sponsoring this award and I would encourage local companies to enter. It is an opportunity to promote what you have already achieved and also to raise aspiration among your staff.
Rafiq Chohan, Slough Borough Council’s assistant director – economic development and inclusion, added: “Independent recognition of your approach to skills development is good for your employer brand and good for business. I know there are many examples of good practice out there and I look forward to seeing some truly inspiring entries.”
Paul Lewis, regional director at SEGRO – which is sponsoring the Green Award, said: “We’re delighted to be sponsoring this award which recognises the innovative initiatives aimed at reducing a business’s impact on the environment. Sustainability remains a key focus for us at SEGRO and we’re committed to encouraging future innovation.
“In addition to the Green Award, the Enterprise Quarter, which is our dedicated area of the Slough Trading Estate tailored to meet the needs of SME’s, is sponsoring the Most Promising New Business Award. We’re encouraging organisations of all shapes and sizes to enter both awards, enabling recognition of the pioneering business practices of companies in Slough which contribute to it being such a vibrant location for successful enterprise.”
