The Challenge of Economic Change
The Challenge of Economic Change: How do we deliver the skills for tomorrow?
Friday 14th September – Saturday 15th September 2007
The world of work is changing very quickly. Very few of the jobs done today existed a century ago; the speed of change is such that it has been at a faster rate over the past 10 years than over the whole of the previous century. Globalisation pressures resulted in 600,000 US jobs being lost to Asia in 2006. Millions of people are knocking on the doors of the wealthier countries, fighting and sometimes dying to get in.
In this context, what kind of workforce will we need for the future? What skills should we be developing? How should our education, training and development institutions be preparing for the future? What is the role of the entrepreneur to be? Does Regulation help or hinder?
